Moses Sumney — “Virile”

THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR:

Moses Sumney’s mind-bending performance on “Virile” is a reflection of the power of live music. The song comes from his new album “Live from Blackalachia” (which is accompanied by a concert film). The track was recorded in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Sumney’s adopted home of North Carolina. There, the singer was able to breathe new life into the song, which originally appeared on his 2020 album græ, with the aid of a seven-piece band that brought additional energy to the already amplified track.

Lo Moon — “Raincoats”

The LA trio Lo Moon has dropped a new single from their upcoming second album “A Modern Life,” set for release on Feb. 25. “Raincoats” begins with a mystical quality that gradually transforms into a driving rock song driven by rumbling percussion. It’s a gorgeous manipulation of sound that can be partially credited to their collaboration with producer Chris Walla, formerly of Death Cab for Cutie.

Coco — “Empty Beach”

With “Empty Beach,” the mysterious anonymous musicians behind the project Coco offer a calming ripple of musical tranquility. The song emphasizes a singular tone and avoids the trappings of excess calling from the studio soundboard. It’s the kind of performance that only works in expert hands. “‘Empty Beach’ uses only the necessary elements, and reflects both the emptiness and the fullness of human experience,” the band recently explained.
