WELTERWEIGHT CLASH
It seems like forever ago when Thurman sat atop the welterweight division. That all ended with a split decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in July 2019. Thurman, now unranked, hasn’t fought since then and gets a real test on Saturday.
Barrios is currently No. 8 in the WBA rankings. His last fight resulted in Barrios losing the WBA super lightweight title via TKO to Gervonta Davis last June. Barrios is moving up to welterweight for the first time Saturday.
The division has evolved into, arguably, boxing’s best with Errol Spence Jr. (WBC and IBF welterweight champion) and Terence Crawford (WBO welterweight champion) sitting near or at the top of many pound-for-pound rankings.
The winner of Thurman-Barrios could position themselves for a title shot. The loser’s day as a championship contender could be over.
ODDS
Betting experts favor Thurman to bounce back. He comes in as a –186 favorite on the moneyline at FanDuel Sportsbook. Barrios is a +146 underdog. Most wagers are on Thurman to win by decision.
