A former WBA welterweight champion, Thurman won the interim title against Diego Chaves in 2013. Promoted to regular champion in 2015, he defended that version of the belt five times against fighters like Robert Guerrero, Luis Collazo, Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, and Josesito Lopez. He fought Manny Pacquiao in July 2019 and lost the title to the legendary fighter. Injuries have affected him throughout his career, and following a recent surgery, Thurman appears to be healthy and ready to go.
Barrios made his pro debut in 2013. A WBA super-lightweight champion, Barrios successfully defended the title once. His last fight was a TKO loss at the hands of Gervonta Davis back in June 2021, losing the title in the process.
