Christopher Jullien was one of Celtic’s best players before he picked up a long-term injury late in 2020. And it is safe to say that the club have felt his absence since then, struggling at the back for a while. On the other hand, the French defender has not been able to return to competitive action and did not make a single appearance in 2021, and is yet to make an appearance this year either.

There have been a lot of positive signs recently though with regards to his recovery from injury as Jullien has been named on the Celtic bench by Ange Postecoglou on several occasions despite not coming on yet.

It must be said though that after a long time, Celtic appear to have a settled centre-back pairing in the form of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers, who is on loan for the season from Tottenham Hotspur.

Jullien was left out of the matchday squad against the Rangers though, leading to fears that he had suffered another injury setback. But fortunately, that does not appear to be the case. Images posted by Celtic on their official website show the Frenchman in training at Lennoxtown, which will come as a huge relief to fans.

Celtic must be hoping to have Jullien back on the pitch as soon as possible. On top of his game, he might very well be the club’s most naturally gifted defender.

But at the same time, one has to wonder if he will be able to rediscover his best form whenever it is that he does end up sealing his return to the pitch.

After all, he has been out of action for well over a year now and had his injury problems even before that. Thus, it remains to be seen how things turn out for the defender.
