James McAvoy has quietly confirmed that he has married partner Lisa Liberati.

The X-Men star and his now-wife met while they were working on movie Split a few years ago, where she was a PA to director M Night Shyamalan.

McAvoy has now revealed in an interview with The Guardian that they recently tied the knot, admitting he is now an honorary Philadelphian owing to his wife's hometown: "Yeah, it's like a second home for me".

The actor and His Dark Materials co-star Anne-Marie Duff were previously married for 10 years, before they divorced in 2016. Together, they share a son called Brendan.

Last week, McAvoy appeared on The Graham Norton Show, where he opened up about his new improvised thriller My Son, which co-stars The Crown's Claire Foy.

Meanwhile, last year the star addressed the possibility of reprising his role as Professor X in the X-Men universe, suggesting he was finished with the part.

"I feel like I got to explore, not everything I wanted to explore, because there's always more surely, but I got to explore a ton of Professor X, and I feel quite satisfied with what I got out of him as a performer," he told Collider.

"It's not to say that you don't ever want to, you never want to come back, and you never want to do it again, and all that kind of stuff. You never say never, as I believe James Bond once said. "But I'm not chomping at the bit. I'm not going to be gutted and desperately sad if it never happens again."
