I am writing to praise “All About Me,” the just-released book by comic genius Mel Brooks, which is not great literature but a monumentally funny extravaganza of early TV, stage and screen nostalgia. Especially for those of us who still fall out of the chair laughing while watching “Blazing Saddles,” “Young Frankenstein” and others.
And Brooks’ book reports that after he worked on lyrics for the Broadway stage version of The Producers, Brooks received a hand-written note from the legendary composer Stephen Sondheim saying, “Mel, I really enjoyed your rhyming Delaware with well aware.”
