Donald Faison to Possibly Play Booster Gold on Legends of Tomorrow

Booster Gold, the glory-seeking superhero who uses time-travel and knowledge of future events to steal the spotlight, never quite made it to the big screen. Greg Berlanti intended to direct a film separate from DCEU continuity, but it seems repeatedly stalled in development. Now, however, comes word from EW that Donald Faison has been cast in a major mystery role for Legends of Tomorrow‘s season finale. A role that, if all goes well, will continue in the 8th season. The show about time travel would certainly seem like an appropriate venue for Booster to debut in live action. But the official character description hints even more strongly as to who he plays. [Keyword emphasis is ours]

“The Legends first encounter this character at a different phase of his career whose golden years are in the rearview mirror. He is good guy deep down; his ego is looking for a boost that only fame, fortune, and glory can provide. While he claims to have been recruited to work for a mysterious time organization, he wasn’t offered much of a choice in the matter. As an unauthorized time traveler with high-profile aspirations, he developed a mischievous streak and cuts a few corners along the way to achieving his dreams.”

“He knows all about the Legends of Tomorrow and finds them inspiring because they are the kind of heroes who started at the ground floor, as opposed to inheriting their powers from an alien planet, a spider bite, or wealthy parents. But the big question is whether his respect for the team is going to be able to help the Legends out of hot water or get them into hotter water!”

Now, it wouldn’t be out of character for the Arrowverse to pull a swerve. Superman and Lois showrunner Todd Helbing recently “confirmed” that Doomsday would come to the show.  Only to have the character be Bizarro instead. Prior to that, “Captain Luthor” turned out to be John Henry Irons, a.k.a. Steel. However, showrunners Phil Klemmer and Keto Shimizu strongly imply Faison’s character will be familiar to viewers. They tell EW, “We can’t wait for our fans to see who he’s playing, and we look forward to telling many more stories with him and our lovable misfits should we be blessed with an eighth season.”

Faison previously played Dr. Gravity in Kick-Ass 2, and Professor Utonium in the unaired Powerpuff Girls live-action pilot.

What do you think of this casting? Is it possible they’re swerving us again? Let us know your thoughts in comments.
