2022 NAACP Image Awards: 5 Most Memorable Movie Roles from ‘Outstanding Supporting Actor’ Nominee Delroy Lindo

The British-American star has been acting since the mid-70s.

Veteran British-American actor Delroy Lindo is one of Hollywood’s most underrated thespians of our time. A frequent collaborator with Oscar-winning director Spike Lee, Lindo has given audiences some of the most complex and intense performances since the mid-’70s. His most recent movie was released last year, Lee’s critically acclaimed Vietnam film Da 5 Bloods.

His contribution to Hollywood earned him a nomination for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture” at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards airing on Saturday, February 26, for his role in the Netflix western The Harder They Fall.  The actor faces several heavy-hitters, including Idris Elba,  LaKetih Stanfield, Judas, and the Black Messiah’s Daniel Kaluuya and Algee Smith.  Check out the five most memorable movie roles from this year’s nominee Delroy Lindo.

  • Da 5 Bloods

Lino stars as Paul, a war veteran, alongside actors Clarke Petes and Isiah Whitlock Jr, who decide to return for a shipment of gold bars that they planned on taking during their tour. However, they soon learn things have changed and not just within the country.

  • Clockers

Cinematic magic is always created when Lidno and Lee collaborate on a film. Lindo plays a drug boss, a young Mekhi Phifer, a drug dealer pulled between the street life and his boss, and a very determined homicide detective played by Harvey Keitel.

  • Malcolm X

Oscar award-winning actor Denzel Washington may have been the star of the motion picture about civil rights leader Malcolm X. Still, it was Lindo’s role as "West Indian" Archie, a Harlem criminal who takes Malcolm under his wing as a young man, that called for attention in this Academy Awards nominated 1992 film.

  • Crooklyn

This light-hearted film, loosely based on Lee’s childhood growing up in Brooklyn, finds Lindo portraying a struggling musician and father of five children and the husband to a school teacher played by the iconic Alfre Woodard.

  • Romeo Must Die

Lindo portrays the villain role effortlessly, but in this action film starring Jet Li  and the late Aaliyah, he’s not entirely too evil. Still, when his business and family are threatened, he might question how far he’s willing to go to protect what he cherishes most.

Watch the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 8/9c.
