There's new information in the case against a former Ohio State doctor who abused hundreds of Ohio State University students and athletes decades ago.
An appeal has been filed by victims of Dr. Richard Strauss in the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court.
Court documents allege there was "fraudulent concealment" by Ohio State, which negates the statute of limitations on laws.
Filed on Wednesday, the court documents say, in part, that Ohio State "falsified Strauss' performance reviews to prevent the public from learning about the sexual abuse" and "destroyed patient records."
The documents also said Ohio State let Strauss retire voluntarily and "misrepresented his departure" by granting him emeritus honors in order to conceal the abuse and the university's role in it.
In 2019, Ohio State trustees voted to rescind the emeritus status bestowed on the doctor who took his own life in 2005.
Ohio State provided the following statement in response to the appeal:
"The university has reached settlement agreements totaling $57.8 million with 232 survivors through the mediation process and the university’s individual settlement program, and will continue to cover the cost of professionally certified counseling services and treatment for anyone affected by Strauss."
