Movement festival reveals 2022 headliners: Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin

Three seasoned techno artists will headline the 2022 edition of Movement as the festival plots its return after two years sidelined by the pandemic.

Iconic Detroit-born DJ Jeff Mills, Sweden’s Adam Beyer and longtime Movement favorite Richie Hawtin will lead the main-stage action at Hart Plaza on Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30.

Fest producer Paxahau unveiled the headliners Wednesday while announcing an initial batch of performers for this spring’s event. The full lineup is expected to be revealed in coming weeks. Movement traditionally has featured 90-plus artists on multiple stages across Hart Plaza, along with a bustling array of afterparties and other electronic-music events around Detroit.

The globally acclaimed, boutique fest born as the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) in 2000 was among the myriad events canceled worldwide during the past two years. The plan to return this spring was announced in November.

Beyer, the Stockholm-born host of the radio program “Drumcode Live,” was among the artists scheduled to headline in 2020 before Movement was called off amid the COVID-19 shutdown.

Mills, the pioneering DJ and producer long known as “The Wizard,” will be playing his first-ever Movement headlining set on the main stage.

Windsor-bred Hawtin is a longtime staple of Detroit’s techno fest, having most recently performed in 2019.
