Syracuse, N.Y. — Don’t expect much recruiting news on National Signing Day.

“Really light day for us,” Syracuse football coach Dino Babers said Wednesday morning on the ACC Network.

The coach said there are two players who intend to sign with the Orange. That group includes Buffalo-area defensive lineman Kevin Jobity Jr., who will be signing his letter of intent Wednesday afternoon.

Most of the heavy lifting was done during the early signing period in December, when 13 players signed binding letters of intent.

Top recruit Francois Nolton later signed a financial aid agreement and enrolled in January, part of a 14-man group, including five transfers, that enrolled at the midyear.

Syracuse in the coming weeks will begin practice, with a spring game set for 7 p.m. April 1 in the Carrier Dome.

Babers, entering his seventh season, compared a stretch of games in October to getting in the boxing ring with Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in successive weeks — with Buster Douglas waiting in the wings.

The coach said improving a passing game that ranked last in the ACC is among the biggest focal points of the offseason.

Defensively, the staff is still mining the transfer portal for an experienced defensive lineman to support a young unit at scrimmage.

The rest of the defense, Babers intimated, is of little concern heading into the spring.

“I’m humble and meek, but I’m very confident about the middle part and backend of that defense and where that’s going to be at the end of spring ball,” Babers said.
