Two step down from Prescott School Board
PRESCOTT – January’s meeting of the Prescott School Board lasted two-hours-and-forty-five minutes though the agenda was short. The primary reason was January is when the superintendent is evaluated and the board discusses its options. Thursday night, the board was in executive session for two-and-a-half hours evaluating Superintendent Robert Poole, and letting him know where he needs to improve his performance. In the end, the board extended his contract for another year.

Bryan Richards
Bryan Edward Richards, age 85 of Hope, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023. Bryan was born on October 16, 1937 to Earl Edward and Johnnie Mae Richards. Even though he was saved later in life, Bryan loved the Lord. His favorite place to be was at Unity Baptist.

Tom Hamilton Duncan, 93, of Hot Springs, Formerly of Hope
Tom was born on February 23, 1929 to Florence Hamilton Duncan and Daniel Webster Duncan of Rockwood, Ala. After graduating from Russellville High School (Russellville, Ala.) in 1947, he attended Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Forestry and Agriculture. Tom was devoted to his family and maintained strong ties to Rockwood, Ala. and loyalty to the Auburn Tigers. He enjoyed connecting with family during the annual Duncan reunion at his family’s homestead in Rockwood and had the joy of attending two national championships to cheer on his beloved Auburn Tigers.

Singer From Hope to Appear On the Grand Ole Opry
Singer Mae Estes who grew up in Hope announced Friday she will be performing on the Grand Old Opry in Nashville on March 4th. The announcement came via Facebook and Youtube. Further details will be forthcoming. Estes is the daughter of Johnny and Darlene Estes.

Gregg Mathis
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, Gregory (Gregg) Thomas Mathis of Hope, Arkansas, a beloved husband, dad, and granddad passed away. He was seventy-two. Born to Fay and Wanda Thomas Mathis of Danville, Arkansas. Gregg graduated from Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor of science in Fisheries and Wildlife Science and went on to become a Biologist. He worked his entire career of 35 Years with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in the Wildlife Management Division. While working for the AGFC, he played an integral part in the acquisition of the Rick Evans Grandview Prairie WMA and the relocation of turkeys in Southwest Arkansas to re-establish a population. Gregg was an avid wildlife enthusiast. He loved turkey hunting, deer hunting, and rabbit hunting. Even more than hunting himself he enjoyed taking his grandkids and teaching them the sport. Gregg loved baseball where he coached many years in the Hope Baseball Program. At retirement, he was a District Supervisor in Southwest Arkansas.
