Port Charlotte man killed after crashing into tractor-trailer on I-75 in Collier County

A Port Charlotte man was killed Tuesday morning when he hit the back of a tractor-trailer rig turning around on I-75.

A Port Charlotte man died Tuesday morning when his pickup hit the back of a tractor-trailer rig turning around on Interstate 75.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the 36-year-old Port Charlotte man was driving east on I-75 shortly before 10 a.m.

Troopers said the 31-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer had been westbound but turned onto the paved median turnaround at Mile Marker 92 and entered the interstate's eastbound left lane.

The pickup collided with the rear of the rig and came to rest on the left lane of the eastbound Interstate. The pickup's driver died at the scene.

The tractor-trailer driver, from Miami, was not hurt.
