PUSHMATAHA COUNTY – A Finley woman was flown from the site of a single vehicle accident on Saturday north of Antlers.

Cheryl Roberts, 58, was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger northbound on U.S. Highway 271 approximately five miles north, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

At about 4:30 p.m., her dog climbed into her lap, interfering with access to the steering wheel, causing vehicle to exit the roadway right. Roberts overcorrected to the left side of road, leaving the roadway, striking a ditch and causing the vehicle to go airborne, landing upright and caught fire.

She was transported by Med flight to Medical City Plano, in stable condition, with back and trunk injuries.

The seatbelt was in use and the airbag was equipped but did not deploy, according to the report. The cause of the accident was listed as inattentive driving.

The OHP was assisted in the investigation by the Finley Fire Department, Antlers Fire Department and Pushmataha County Sheriff’s Department.
