After enduring an injury crisis in the midfield department during December, Bayern Munich had got back several players back in action during January. Joshua Kimmich is back to his best after a tough battle with coronavirus, while Corentin Tolisso is also delivering consistent performances. Marc Roca has also managed to deliver good performances during this injury crisis.

Amidst several positive news on the injury front, there has been another disappointing setback for one of the key midfielders for Rekordmeister. According to Kicker, Leon Goretzka has received a setback while recovering from a knee injury that has troubled him since December. After featuring in last month’s victory against Borussia Dortmund, Goretzka has been on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury.

Goretzka was expected to return after the winter break, but persistent pain in the knee extended his time on the sidelines. The Bavarian club confirmed that Goretzka would not go under the knife. However, there was no definite time frame mentioned about his return to the action.

The latest update from Kicker suggests that recovery will take even more time than the initial estimation. This report once again confirms that Goretzka will not have surgery to resolve this problem and continue to focus on conservative therapy.

Goretzka was always going to miss next weekend’s game against RB Leipzig. However, his return was expected to be around the corner as he had started training on the pitch. The latest setback suggests that Goretzka will not be completely fit by the time Champions League resumes in February.

Leon Goretzka is a big miss for Die Roten despite the quality of other midfielders in the squad. The German international has been a consistent performer for Rekordmeister in the past 18 months. However, there have been frustrating spells on the sidelines for Goretzka during the same time period.

Nagelsmann and Bayern will be hoping that Goretzka gets rid of this injury and returns to action as soon as possible. The German midfielder will have a decisive role to play if Die Roten wants to bring the Champions League trophy back to Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, Josip Stanisic has joined his teammates in the training. The Croatian defender has been out for weeks due to injury, but he is expected to be back in the squad against RB Leipzig. Nagelsmann will have a big squad available for next weekend’s clash. Apart from Alphonso Davies, all infected players have recovered from coronavirus.
