On being hired by the Broncos:

“I feel like this is a dream right now. This is absolutely unbelievable to be up here in front of everybody. I’ve got to keep my composure about me because this is truly unbelievable. To say that I’m excited would be a massive understatement because I am so excited to get to work and I want to do nothing but work with all these guys and be with them.”

On overall coaching philosophy:

“Whatever we can do to take advantage of the players — what they do the best and being able to execute and win the game as a team. It might not be a lot of offense, it might be more defense, but we just have to work together to understand how those things all link. I think that’s just something from my background and understanding all those different worlds (offense, defense and special teams), it’s really helped me over time.”

On coaching Aaron Rodgers the last three years in Green Bay:

“Aaron was absolutely unbelievable. He’s been one of my biggest supporters and I love him. Coaching a man like that, the one thing I learned is, you better have an answer for every question because he’s going to ask every single question about every single thing that you’re going to do. I think that was something that was very valuable for me.”

On bringing energy to the team:

“I think it’s big. It has to be that genuine juice. It has to be who you are and vibrate through the whole facility. Everyone has to feel it. It’s not just one person, you don’t just save it up for your star player. It has to be with anybody and everybody. … As a coach, you have to have that excitement and energy to find different ways to approach them and get them fired up to learn and get better each day.”

On hiring an assistant to help with game management:

“The starting point is getting a great game management guy. We see it every week and it’s the difference in a lot of games and it’s having somebody good who can be there to guide you going into a game. Practice is big. You have to work situations all the time. Working those situations isn’t fun all the time for the guys, but in the heat of battle, you want them to react the right way.”
