BHN Puck Links: Boston Bruins Marchand Weighs In On Coyotes

Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand continues to spin gold with his twitter account.

This time he’s introducing himself to the Arizona Coyotes fandom after news broke on Thursday that they’re moving to college rink with a 5,000 seat capacity for the next 3-4 years while hoping that a new arena is built in the downtown area.

As always, Marchand had some thoughts on social media about the Arizona situation that absolutely impacts the escrow account for the players.

It’s eye-opening to think that the NHL is okay with the floundering Arizona situation when there are other cities with legit NHL rinks pining for a team, and it also speaks to the desperate straits that the Coyotes are in at this point. But it feels like the NHL has dug their heels in on this one and decided the Coyotes are staying while other markets pine for a hockey team, and it doesn’t matter what depths the Coyotes sink to with empty building, unpaid bills and a continued, uncertain future.

Should make for an interesting setting when Marchand drops into Arizona on Friday night with the rest of the Boston Bruins for a date against the soon-to-be homeless Desert Dogs.

Now on to the BHN Puck Links:

*No, Taylor Hall did not need to “answer the bell” for his hit on Nathan MacKinnon. (Boston Hockey Now)

*Evander Kane is signing with the Edmonton Oilers despite some interest from the Washington Capitals. I’m calling it now: Kane signing with the Oil is going to end up hurting that team in the end. This isn’t a second chance for him. This is like a sixth or seventh chance for Kane, who continues to run into trouble with every team he joins. Why should this be any different? (Washington Hockey Now)

*Toughest weekend of the week coming up for the San Jose Sharks as they head on the road to the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes. (San Jose Hockey Now)

*Guy, guys, guys…Barry Trotz and Lou Lamoriello aren’t going anywhere out on the Island. (NYI Hockey Now)

*I propose we call this “The Zegras” instead of “The Michigan” from now on.

*Speaking of Kane, he took issue with something Jeff O’Neill said about his family on the airwaves on Thursday. (Yahoo! Sports)

*As mentioned above, the Arizona Coyotes are in talks to play in an arena with a 5,000 seat capacity for the next 3-4 years while trying to get a new rink built. How on Earth is the NHL hanging in there with a franchise that needs a new home? (PHNX)

*Look at Alex Ovechkin at the head of the pack for Hart Trophy discussion this season after all these years. What a story. (NHL.com)

*Looking for some hockey talk? Here’s a Facebook Live chat that James Murphy and yours truly had yesterday addressing a number of hockey topics. (Pucks with Haggs)

*The Philadelphia Flyers are in “wait ‘til next season” mode already at the halfway mark of the NHL regular season. On the plus side, that means Claude Giroux is going to be out there as an impact center available at the trade deadline. (Pucks with Haggs)

*This day in hockey history 11 years ago.

*For something completely different: James Gunn said that this current incarnation of the Guardians of the Galaxy won’t be together again after the third installment of the movie. That’s bittersweet, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. (Deadline)
