It goes by a lot of names, Soda, Coke, soft drink, and more, but here in the Midwest, and especially in Iowa, we mostly call it pop.

The first name-brand soda ever was Dr. Pepper with Coca-Cola coming soon after in the 1880s. Both were originally made for "medicine." Hundreds of years later though we now drink them for fun, and sometimes daily. Here are the top 4 Soft drinks for our great state of Iowa.

We've used a few Sites to find Iowa's favorite pop. From MSN to Thrillist. Who knew people were so passionate about their delicious carbonated drinks!

Iowa Favorites

5. Pepsi

This Iowa favorite kicks off our list at number 5. It was developed in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, it was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898 and then shortened to Pepsi in 1961. This soda and number 4 are so close together that they swap places more times than none.

4. Jones Soda

An Iowa classic! "Jones Soda was developed in 1995 and introduced in 1996 with six flavors: Orange, Cherry, Lemon Lime, Strawberry Lime, Raspberry, Grape in 12 oz glass bottles." Even though this soda didn't start in Iowa, people love it in the Midwest, and here.

Pepsi's biggest enemy. At number 3, this soda started in  Atlanta, Georgia in 1886. It has even kept a bunch of its original designs.

2. Squirt

Trust me, I'm just as shocked as you are! What a random pick, but apparently this soda, that started in 1938, has some huge support in Iowa!

Honorable Mention:

Mr. Pibb

My personal favorite.

Dr. Pepper

The oldest soda!

These two had a huge number of supporters, and are in the top 10, but not the top 5.

Now let's see number 1!

1. Mountain Dew

It's Iowa's favorite! "The original formula was invented in the 1940s by Tennessee beverage bottlers Barney and Ally Hartman and was first marketed in Marion, Virginia; Knoxville, Tennessee and Johnson City, Tennessee." Loved by many, and everyone who chimed in on these studies usually picked this green drink.
