Officials broke ground this week on another large community in Susquehanna township.

Burkentine Builders held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Terraces at Maplewood, a $64 million luxury rental community to be built north of the intersection of Thea Drive and Elmwood Drive.

The Terraces at Maplewood will be situated on a 24.8 acre property. The development is an extension of the other Maplewood housing developments on Birchwood Circle and Oakwood Lane.

The Terraces at Maplewood will include 90 apartments and 146, two-story townhomes with one to three bedroom floor plans all featuring kitchens with stainless-steel appliances and granite countertops.

The community will include a clubhouse, outdoor pool, wellness center, a walking and biking trail, a dog area and an Amazon hub -where residents can pick up their packages that are safely locked up.

The community clubhouse will be built in the middle of the development along Elmwood Drive. One underground parking area will be located between the first and second apartment buildings and another underground parking lot is planned near the third apartment building. There will be five apartment buildings in total, each with 18 units.

The community will be within walking distance to Susquehanna Union Green, a mixed-use development that is under construction.

“When the Maplewood site became available, we immediately realized the benefit its proximity to Union Green would bring to our residents,” Michael Burkentine, VP, sales and business development at Burkentine Builders said in a news release.

The 58-acre village-style Susquehanna Union Green development project includes a Wendy’s, a Panera Bread café and a real estate office. The community will also include more commercial/retail buildings; a hotel with 110 rooms; Presbyterian Senior Living, a senior-living community; and restaurants including the Zeroday Brewing Company, which is partnering with Shakedown BBQ. The development will include outdoor spaces including the “Central Green,” which will have live community programming, including festivals, yoga on the lawn, outdoor movies and more.

“In partnership with Susquehanna Township and the local community, we designed Susquehanna Union Green to serve as a town center,” Nicole Conway, executive vice president and general counsel at the Vartan Group said in a joint news release. “The goal was to connect the site to surrounding neighborhoods, such as the Terraces at Maplewood, to make access to the site’s shopping and dining convenient and to encourage use of the public parks and greenspaces.”

York County-based Burkentine Builders has 4,700 single-family homes, townhomes, apartments, and commercial properties in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and North Carolina. The company has in development more than 10,000 additional residential rental units along the East Coast.
