Severe Weather Alert: Saturday Snow Storm

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News Storm Team has issued a Severe Weather Alert for Saturday for the potential of heavy snow and significant accumulations in parts of western Massachusetts.

Winter Storm Warning for central & eastern Hampden, central & eastern Hampshire, & central & eastern Franklin County, Friday night through Saturday evening.

Winter Weather Advisory for Berkshire & western Franklin Counties Friday night through Saturday evening.

Wind Chill Advisory 7pm Saturday to 10 am Sunday for all of western Massachusetts. Wind chills as cold as 30 below zero possible overnight.

Snowfall Timeline:

Late Saturday morning into afternoon:

Steadiest and heaviest snow will fall during the day Saturday, anywhere from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This when 1 inch per hour snowfall rates are possible in eastern Hampden & eastern Hampshire County.  Snow accumulation will be highest in eastern Hampden County and lowest in northern Berkshire County.  This will be a “light” powdery snow.

In addition to the snow there will also be some wind gusts over 30 MPH. Be ready for some blowing and drifting of snow.

Saturday night:

The snow will end between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Saturday. Skies will gradually clear overnight. The wind will gust over 20mph through Saturday night.
