Michael Zorc is looking forward to Gio Reyna’s return to action and believes that he will be almost like a new signing for Borussia Dortmund.

Gio Reyna is closing in on his return to action after spending five months on the sidelines. The 19 year old, who suffered a torn muscle fibre in September, has been working on getting back to full fitness over the last couple of months. And he could finally make his comeback to the Borussia Dortmund squad after the international break.

Michael Zorc believes that Borussia Dortmund have really missed Gio Reyna’s presence in midfield, and the USMNT international will be almost like a new signing for them in the second half of the season. In an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten, Zorc said:

"“Gio is almost like a new signing for us for the second half of the season. He made an excellent start to the season and then, unfortunately, he was sidelined for a long time.”"

Zorc also believes that Reyna can really help Borussia Dortmund with his ability to play in different roles. “He can help us in midfield as a number eight and also on the wing, although he is not a classic winger and tends to move into the central areas. He has a very fine sense of the spaces he needs to be in and where he can open things up between the opposing lines. The further forward he plays, the more dangerous he is in terms of scoring goals.”

Reyna made an impressive start to the campaign for Borussia Dortmund in his new midfield role before suffering an injury while on international duty with the United States in September. The initial diagnosis was that he would be able to return to action within a month. But some complications during his road to recovery meant that he had to miss the rest of the first half of the season.

Reyna scored two goals and provided one assist in his first five appearances of the season for Borussia Dortmund before suffering his injury. And everyone at the club will be hoping to see him back on the pitch very soon.
