Sixers coach Doc Rivers gives injury update on Seth Curry, will be out

Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry will miss his fourth straight game, Thursday’s tilt against the Los Angeles Lakers, due to left ankle soreness. His absence is forcing the Sixers to find alternative sources of shooting and ball-handling.

Curry has been an essential part of Philadelphia’s offense with his obvious elite shooting from deep and ability to handle the ball. The Sixers cannot put that much pressure on second-year guard Tyrese Maxey, who still faces a massive learning curve to reach his full potential.

As the Sixers prepared for the Lakers on Thursday, coach Doc Rivers said Curry didn’t get any work in.

“No,” said Rivers. “He did a lot yesterday (Wednesday). He didn’t do much at all. He did some shooting. That’s about it. We were hoping he’d be back tonight (Thursday). That’s not gonna happen, so we’re just gonna see the next game and see if he can go.”

The Sixers will host the Sacramento Kings on Saturday for the third game of this current five-game homestand. That will be the next chance to play for Curry.

“He just wouldn’t have been able to play,” Rivers added. “I don’t even know if this was a playoff game if he would’ve been able to play. We just gotta wait until he feels better.”
