SAN FRANCISCO — Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins were named Western Conference starters for the 2022 All-Star Game in Cleveland, the league announced Thursday.

The All-Star game is Sunday, February 20th, in Cleveland.

Klay Thompson finished fourth among Western Conference guards. Draymond Green was sixth among forwards.

Wiggins, the former No. 1 overall draft pick, will be making his first All-Star game appearance in his eighth season in the NBA.

“One of the proudest moments I’ve had as a coach just to see what Wiggs has done since he’s got here a couple of years ago,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “The journey he’s traveled has been rocky at times. To see how’s hard he’s worked and to see that rewarded. Just can’t be anymore happier for him.”

In addition to the pair of Warriors, the Western Conference starters are the Lakers’ LeBron James, the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant. James was named the team captain for receiving the most votes among Western Conference players. The Eastern Conference starters are are the Nets’ Kevin Durant, the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 76ers’ Joel Embiid, the Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan and the Hawks’ Trae Young. Durant, the former Warrior, is the East captain, but will not play because of a knee injury.

Curry led all guards in votes with 6,019,418 votes. This is the second time Curry’s led guards in voting since the new All-Star Game format was implemented in the 2018-19 season. Curry is averaging 25.8 points and 6.2 assists on the season and leading the Warriors to the second-best record in the league at 35-13.

James received the most votes in the fan vote, and will make his 18th All-Star team. That will tie him with Kobe Bryant for the second-most in NBA history, one behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
