Sixers discuss how much they miss injured guard Seth Curry on offense

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

As the Philadelphia 76ers prepare to take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, they will have to do so without Seth Curry, who will miss his fourth straight game with left ankle soreness. The Sixers have found ways to win without him, but they miss him on the floor.

In addition to his shooting and ability to space the floor for Joel Embiid, the Sixers also miss his ball-handling. He could play off Embiid and get the team into its offense.

“He adds a lot to our offense,” said Embiid. “Obviously, my two-man game with him is huge. That little two action that we always run is hard to guard. So we haven’t run that obviously because he hasn’t been playing.”

With Curry out at the same time as Shake Milton, Philadelphia’s ball-handling options are limited. The Sixers have had to rely more on young Tyrese Maxey and Furkan Korkmaz.

“You miss them all,” said coach Doc Rivers. “You miss Shake; you miss Seth, there’s no doubt. Seth, Tobias (Harris), Joel and Tyrese at the end of a game, we’re really efficient. Take one of those guys off the floor, it affects you a little bit, but like I said earlier, this is the year of not having your starting five around the league, not just us. You just have to adjust.”

Embiid has been building a two-man game with Maxey, but it is not as efficient as with Curry yet.

“I’ll be trying to help Tyrese and run that a little more with him,” Embiid added. “We keep working on that chemistry and we’ve gotten so much better the past few games, so obviously when you talk about Seth, shooting. Whether it’s from 3 or the mid-range, obviously, that’s missed.”
