Transfer talk

With the January window now firmly shut, that's it for SunSport's Liverpool Transfer News blog.

We'll be heading over to our main transfer blog now to keep you updated with all of the latest news, gossip and deadline day fall-out.

Thanks for following and we'll see you again in the summer for more Reds incomings and outgoings.

Carvalho on his way...

Liverpool have everything in place to bring in Fabio Carvalho this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds thought they had a deal in place with Fulham to sign the wonderkid during the January window, only to see negotiations fall through after paperwork held up proceedings.

But Romano reports Liverpool should be able to add Carvalho in June under the same conditions as their January offer.

The player has already completed a medical and all parties involved in the deal are apparently keen to make it happen as soon as possible.

Mo Plan B

Liverpool need to start thinking about a back-up plan if they fail to tie down Mo Salah to a new contract.

That's the view of ex-Everton start Kevin Campbell, who says it's time the Reds faced up to the fact Salah may not renew.

The Egypt hitman is out on contract next year but there is little sign of pen being put to paper on a new deal yet.

And while the club have already brought in Porto's Luis Diaz, Campbell reckons further reinforcements may be required.

He said: “He’s probably the best player in the world at the moment. But if they can’t agree a deal then plans have to be made.

"Diaz has arrived and he’s a quality signing. Dybala could be another one at the end of the season.

“He’s one of those world-class stars you want to see in the Premier League.

“If Salah stays, great, Liverpool will be in a great position. But there is a real chance he goes.

“It would be wrong for the club to not at least look at potential replacements.”

Exception to the rule

Denis Zakaria has described the feeling of joining Juventus as 'exceptional' after snubbing interest from Liverpool.

The Switzerland international made the deadline day switch from Borussia Monchengladbach to Juve for a reported fee of just £4million.

The Reds were thought to be in the mix for the defensive midfielder's services, but he admitted he couldn't be happier over his move to Turin instead.

He said: “Signing up for Juventus is something exceptional for me. I have yet to realise it. It is a great club, I am very honoured and proud to be part of it.

"I will give my best to make my contribution. I can help the team to recover balls, it is one of my qualities.

“I can give my contribution in progression and with my dynamism. I can contribute with my mentality to want to win all the games, even though that this is already the mentality of the team.

"I want to put my energy available to the team to achieve important results.

“My goal is to win trophies with Juventus. Juventus is a great club, which every year must win something.

"For me it is important to play well, give joy to the fans and win trophies.”

Salah leaves old-timer in awe

Sometimes you just have to stand back and applaud.

That's the view of James Milner on team-mate Mo Salah's sensational form in front of goal.

The England veteran - who turned 36 last month - said even he can't believe his eyes at times when Salah finds the net.

He said: "For me, the last few months, if he's not, there is someone playing very, very well in front of him.

"For me, he is right up there – the goals he's scoring, the numbers he's putting up consistently, goals and assists.

"Obviously I might be slightly biased – and I'm blessed as well because I get to train with him every day and see how good he is in training as well – but I think he has to be the best over the recent months and hopefully long may it continue.

"He's special. Some of the goals he's scoring at times, you just have to stop and applaud them really."

Chelsea in for Carvalho

Liverpool could face a transfer battle if they're to land Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho in the summer.

The Reds missed out on the 19-year-old's signature as they struggled with the paperwork on deadline day.

Hope of a deal is not lost altogether though, with reports suggesting Liverpool could stage another attempt when the window reopens in the summer.

But now Chelsea are reportedly in the mix for the wonderkid's services and could launch a bid at the end of the season.

Heading the other way...

While Liverpool failed to bring in Fulham's Fabio Carvalho, they did manage to have further transfer dealings with the Championship leaders.

The Reds have sent 20-year-old Neco Williams on loan to Craven Cottage until the end of the season.

That should keep relations ticking overly warmly between the two clubs should the Reds go back in for Carvalho in the summer.

Reds missed a Fab opportunity

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison reckons Liverpool will live to regret failing to land Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds were pushing to bring in the 19-year-old on deadline day but a delay in paperwork saw the deal fall through.

Morrison - now a pundit after retiring back in 2017 - said he believes the youngster should make a summer switch to Anfield, who are best placed to nurture his talent.

He said: "I think it might still happen in the summer. I hope it does.

“I hope he does go to Liverpool because that young man deserves to go and work under someone like Jurgen Klopp. Marco Silva’s doing a good job with him at Fulham but going to a club like Liverpool as a youngster, that’s what you dream of.

“Carvalho obviously thought he was going to Liverpool but it’s not going to happen. But he’s got to get his had down and keep producing form he’s producing at Fulham.

“Everybody’s talking about him. He’s an exciting young talent and hopefully in the summer it does happen. I’m gutted for him because the youngster’s got some serious ability.”

Phil your boots

Nat Phillips has admitted he found his lack of game time at Liverpool 'difficult' following his loan move to Bournemouth.

He told the Cherries' media team: "Interest had been growing throughout the window and it was an option I was really excited about because of the club's ambition.

"I've heard a lot of good things about the club and I'm very happy to get started.

"I've had a period now where I've not seen a great deal of football or minutes. As a player, that's what you want to be doing. I'm hoping that, by coming here, I will get the opportunity to do so.

"It is true, it is difficult when you're not playing and I found it difficult after getting a taste for regular football last year.

"To then go back to not playing as much is hard, but I recognise that I need to go and get some minutes elsewhere and hopefully this is a move that suits all parties.

"The club has got a clear goal and all players are wanting to play in the Premier League. We have all got that clear common goal and we will be doing everything we can to achieve that."

Jude a summer Kop target?

Liverpool reportedly believe that a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is ‘achievable’ in the future.

This follows heightened speculation linking the Reds with a move for the 18-year-old.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter, Liverpool could spread the cost to make a likely £90million plus asking price seem more palatable.

Jurgen hails new boy Luiz

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claims ‘outstanding’ newcomer Luiz Diaz has ALL the assets need to be a top-flight superstar.

Klopp said: is delighted to have captured Porto winger Luis Diaz and is confident he will be a big boost to the team.

Klopp said: “‘We believe he has everything needed to fit into our way and adapt to the Premier League, both physically and mentally.

“He is a player who is hungry for success and knows you have to fight to get what you want.

“He is a fighter, no doubt. He’s a skilful team player who has always the goal in mind.”

Delayed summer Biss-ness

Aston Villa are reportedly prepared to battle Arsenal and Liverpool for the £50 million rated Brighton star Yves Bissouma.

The midfielder, 25, has 18 months left on his deal with the Seagulls and has a number of clubs keen on him.

Villa allegedly had a £25m offer for the star rejected earlier in the transfer window.

Brighton are believed to be looking for a figure of over £45m for the Mali international.

Several teams appear unwilling to meet that valuation, including both Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Tottenham.

The Daily Mail reports that Villa also ‘decided against’ making a move for Bissouma before the close of the window yesterday.

'Fulham finessed us'

Liverpool fans joked they had been “finessed” by Fulham after the West Londoners sealed a stunning loan switch for Neco Williams. writes ISABELLE BARKER.

Confirmation of the Liverpool right-back’s arrival for the remainder of the season came after Fabio Carvalho’s Merseyside move sensationally broke down.

Williams' deal sent social media into meltdown with one Reds supporter writing on Twitter: “How the f**k have we been finessed by Fulham?”

The move means that Fulham agreed to sell fellow full-back Denis Odoi to Club Bruges for £580,000

The deadline day transfer brought an end to six years of service at Craven Cottage for the Belgian right back.

Odoi was signed for a similar fee from Lokeren in 2016 and has played a part in three promotions, making more than 150 appearances for the club.

Transfer deadline deals...

It's surely safe now to run through the main deals on an unexpectedly dramatic transfer deadline day.

That's because Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's permanent switch from Arsenal to Barcelona was confirmed shortly after the window shut at 11pm.

Ex-Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen got the ball rolling with a six-month deal at Brentford.

Man City landed River Plate's Argentina striker Julian Alvarez for £14million but loaned him back to his home-country club.

Newcastle made Brighton centre-back Dan Burn their third defensive signing.

And Arsenal legend Aaron Ramsey joined Rangers on loan from Juventus.

Finally, Manchester United's misfit midfielder Donny van de Beek completed a busy first full day for new Everton boss Frank Lampard with a loan switch.

Fabi-NO deal

Liverpool's deadline swoop for Fulham whizkid Fabio Carvalho is reportedly OFF.

Time run out for the Reds - complicated by the Cottagers insisting on the Portuguese midfielder returning on loan for the rest of the season.

Cottagers hold out for Carvalho loan return

Fulham sources insist they will only let Fabio Carvalho join Liverpool if they get a loan back clause in the deal, writes ANDY DILLON.

The two clubs have agreed in principle for the attacking midfielder to move to Anfield.

But the teenager is seen as so important to Championship Fulham's promotion push that they want him until the end of the season.

The Londoners are playing hardball despite the obvious attraction for the 19-year-old.

Carvalho would still be subject to a tribunal even though he is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

'£8m fee for Carvalho'

Liverpool have agreed an £8million transfer for Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho.

A five-year deal is in place for the talented winger, 19, after lengthy deadline day talks.

Liverpool pressing to land Carvalho tonight

Fulham seem to be losing their fight to keep Portuguese starlet Fabio Carvalho until the summer.

The Championship leaders have been confident of keeping the attacking midfielder.

But Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit tonight.

Cottagers eye late swoop for Neco

Fulham could pounce late for Liverpool right-back Neco Williams.

That’s the claim from the The Athletic as the Wales star, 20, searches for more regular first-team action.

Liverpool remain keen on Fulham’s Portuguese whizkid Fabio Carvalho.

But that might be a deal for the summer.

Klopp: Diaz has the lot

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp claims 'outstanding' newcomer Luiz Diaz has ALL the assets need to be a top-flight superstar.

Klopp said: is delighted to have captured Porto winger Luis Diaz and is confident he will be a big boost to the team.

Klopp said: “‘We believe he has everything needed to fit into our way and adapt to the Premier League, both physically and mentally.

"He is a player who is hungry for success and knows you have to fight to get what you want.

“He is a fighter, no doubt. He’s a skilful team player who has always the goal in mind.”

Vock's popular in Italy

Atalanta have shown interest in Divock Origi, according to The Times.

His contract expires at the end of the season if he does not trigger an appearance-related clause, which seems unlikely.

Newcastle are chasing Atalanta forward Duvan Zapata and the Italian club’s interest in Origi is linked to that.

Reds still pushing for Carvalho

Liverpool are still in direct contact with Fulham over a deal for Fabio Carvalho, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Talks are ongoing but Fulham want more than the £5m The Reds have offered.

If a deal is agreed Carvalho will be offered a five-year contract at Anfield.

But he will only team up with Jurgen Klopp's side at the end of the season, with Fulham determined to keep him for their promotion push.

Liverpool plot future Bellingham move

Liverpool reportedly believe that a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is ‘achievable’ in the future.

This follows heightened speculation linking the Reds with a move for the 18-year-old.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter, Liverpool could spread the cost to make a likely £90million plus asking price seem more palatable.

Liverpool plot late defensive addition

Liverpool are reportedly “actively moving” for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

Tutto Mercato reports that the Reds are expected to send officials to Italy next month to make “contacts” with both Skriniar and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala over summer moves to Anfield.

Skriniar, aged 26, has 18 months remaining on his current deal with the Italian club.

Alisson pokes fun at Jota

Diogo Jota might fancy himself as a zookeeper when he calls time on his football career after spending time handling exotic animals in Dubai.

But he faces the wrath of Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker if he does so, as the in-form forward has already found out over the winter break.

While many players spent their time off relaxing, Jota marked his break with a visit to Rashed Belhasa's exclusive zoo in Dubai.

And The Reds' shot-stopper replied to the post: "Dr Dolittle 😂" in reference to the fictional character who can talk to animals.
