RB Rankings: Bijan Robinson

As we review the RB rankings players have had a chance to raise their stock and move up the rankings. Before we jump into Bijan Robinson, here’s a few reminders about the rankings themselves:

  • The rankings will be updated throughout the season.
  • Players who have not played college football are not eligible for the rankings.
  • Players are graded on their college ability, not their pro potential.
  • We are judging players on their film, production and physical tools.

Texas, running back, Bijan Robinson was a top prospect who had a strong finish to his freshman season. He built on that start with a strong sophomore campaign that showed how dangerous he could be as the focal point of the offense. Despite having his season cut short by injury, Robinson rushed for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns on 195 carries while also catching 26 passes for 295 yards and 4 more touchdowns in ten games. The dynamic back is a star for the Longhorns and is among the elite backs in college football.

Robinson is a fluid athlete at 6’0″ 214 lbs, with the agility and explosion to put defenders in the spin cycle. He is quick to get through the hole and is downfield before defenders can get in position to cut him off. Once he is in space getting a clean hit on Robinson is nearly impossible. He dances through the defense with quick feet and explosive speed that few can match. One misstep by the defense often leads to a long run and usually a touchdown for Robinson.

Speed and explosion are a key part of Robinson’s game, but his elusiveness also comes from his power. He has gained strength early in his career and is able to combine that muscle with his burst to run through tackles. Robinson is not easy to tackle because it’s hard to get a clean shot on him, but throw in his ability to power through arm tackles with his strength and the task becomes exponentially more difficult. The added strength has made Robinson a more consistent runner and helps to get the most out of his athletic gifts.

Bijan Robinson is a an elite athlete who can break a long run at any time. He has become more of a workhorse with his added strength and power. He is also a versatile weapon who is dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield. Robinson is a do-it-all star who can beat the defense in a variety of ways. He has performed at a high level, showing he is one of the best players in college football.
