Stephen Jackson led Oakland's defense to three Class 6A football state championships, including back-to-back undefeated seasons.

He will now go to his alma mater, where he will get a chance to be a head coach for the first time in his coaching career.

Jackson was named the next Gordonsville football coach on Thursday, replacing Scott Clemons, who resigned recently.

"We believe Coach Jackson is ready to lead our football program for years to come," Gordonsville principal Shane Vaden said. "He has been coaching at some great programs and been a part of several state championships.

"We look forward to working with Coach Jackson and giving him our full support to lead the Tiger football program and compete for championships."

Jackson, who is in his late 30s, spent seven seasons at Oakland — coming to the Murfreesboro school with current coach Kevin Creasy. In his tenure he built a dominant defense.

Jackson, a Tennessee Tech graduate, also coached the offensive line and defensive line at Trousdale County with Creasy and also coached at Gordonsville as an offensive and defensive line coach.
