Sand Hauler's Load Crushes Other Truck Driver in Head-on Crash

KERMIT, TX – A fatal crash between two semi trucks in the oil patch took the life of one driver when a sand hauler's load crushed the other driver inside his cab.

According to the Winkler County Sheriff's Office, on Jan. 27 at around 7:30 a.m., deputies with the WCSO were dispatched to the Highway 302, about 5 miles outside of the city limits, for the report of a major crash.

When the crew arrived, they discovered a sand hauler and another Semi-truck that crashed head-on in the middle of the highway. Local news outlets at around 9 a.m. reported that a tow truck was called to the scene to assist removing the sandbox from the Semi-trucks cab. Sand had completely filled the cab and the driver was trapped.

Just 20 minutes later, it was reported that a deceased male was removed from the cab of the semi.

The name of the deceased has not been released at this time.

The highway is expected to be closed until Thursday afternoon.
