Three inmates at the Chautauqua County Jail are facing drug-related charges following investigations conducted at the jail by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force.
On December 29th, corrections officers at the jail encountered an incoherent subject inside of a jail cell. During the incident, an officer secured multiple small pieces of paper, which the subject had been burning. The pieces of paper were turned over to members of the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. The pieces of paper were later tested for the presence of narcotics, and these tests allegedly showed the presence of morphine. 46-year-old Dwayne Posey was charged with 1st-degree promoting prison contraband and 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and will be arraigned on the charges at a later date.
On January 5th, task force members investigated the discovery of a suspicious substance located by correctional officers at the jail and found that it was a quantity of heroin. The investigation included review of video footage from the jail, which showed 46-year-old Blake Smith allegedly passing the heroin to another jail inmate. Corrections officers also located a small quantity of heroin concealed in a pair of jail-issued socks, with investigators determining that 19-year-old Devon Smith allegedly placed the heroin in the socks. Arrest warrants were obtained for both men, who are being held on unrelated charges. Blake will be arraigned at a later date on charges of 3rd-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 1st-degree promoting prison contraband. Devon will be arraigned on charges of 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and 1st-degree promoting prison contraband.
