Michael Madsen is breaking his silence on his son's devastating death.
The family confirmed Hudson's passing earlier this week after it was revealed that the late 26-year-old died by apparent suicide from a gunshot wound to the head.
Now the Reservoir Dogs actor is addressing the tragic situation, and is reportedly in "shock" over his son's passing, per The Los Angeles Times. He also shared the contents of his last text message from Hudson, which read "I love you dad."
"I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was "I love you dad." the 64-year-old wrote in his statement on Thursday, January 27.
He also noted that he "didn't see any signs of depression," before his son's death. "It's so tragic and sad," he added. "I'm just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.
Hudson was living in Oahu, Hawaii along with his wife Carlie when he was unexpectedly found dead. The pair had reportedly been working to conceive a child through IVF treatments, as OK! learned.
"He had typical life challenges that people have with finances, but he wanted a family," Michael continued to the outlet. "He was looking towards his future, so it's mind blowing. I just can't grasp what happened.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office confirmed that Hudson's death was believed to be caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
"I can confirm Hudson Lee Madsen, 26, died by a gunshot wound to the head in a suspected suicide on the island of Oahu," the spokesperson state.
The family released a statement at the time, writing, "We are heartbroken and overwhelmed with grief and pain at the loss of Hudson. His memory and light will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. We ask for privacy and respect during this difficult time."
Hudson was the oldest of Michael's three children with wife DeAnna Madsen — with whom he also shares sons Calvin and Luke. The Kill Bill: Volume 1 actor also has two older sons, Christian and Max, with ex-wife Jeannine Bisignano.
Hudson's wife Carlie has not made any public statements regarding her husband's death, and she recently made her Instagram account private in the midst of the tragic situation.
