Some of you may recall my frantic search for a jar of pickled pigs feet before Christmas. My wife's father is a fan but has been unable to find any. I took it upon myself to try and track them down for him. After all, I have never had trouble finding a jar of pickled pigs feet in New Bedford before – but that was before the supply chain crisis.

After searching high and low through all of the reliable places with no luck, I decided to write about my plight right here on these pages and then took my case to the airwaves. Still, no luck!

Listeners to my program and readers of my article actually joined me in the search for a jar of pickled pigs feet, but to no avail. It seems no one could locate a jar of pickled pigs feet.

There were false sightings and several promising leads that led to dead ends. I was told that The Butcher Shop on Dartmouth Street would surely carry pickled pigs feet. They do, but they didn't that day. The woman who answered my query sympathized with my plight and informed me that at least 50 other people had called on my behalf.

I was now on a mission to find a jar of pickled pigs feet for my 91-year-old father-in-law in time for Christmas, but alas, it was not to be. All seemed lost. Would I ever lay eyes on a pickled pig foot again?

Then, more than a month later, from out of the blue, Dennis Giammalvo of New Bedford walked into my studio on Wednesday afternoon, clutching a jar of Hormel pickled pigs feet. He'd found them at Seabra in Fall River. What a guy!

Coincidentally, the car dealership owned by Dennis' uncle, Sam Giammalvo, was one of my first clients when I worked at WBSM for the first time some 20 years ago. It's a small world after all.

My father-in-law will be mighty pleased to sink his choppers into these pigs feet. Hopefully, the pending snowstorm won't prevent me from getting them to him in Rhode Island on Saturday.
