OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators (@Senators) announced today that the team has signed defenceman Nick Holden to a one-year contract extension. The contract has a value of $1.3M for the 2022-23 season.

Holden, 34, is in the midst of his first season with Ottawa which has seen him record one goal and three assists while appearing in 30 the club's 36 regular-season games. In pacing the Senators with a career-high 3:14 shorthanded time-on-ice per-game average, he sits sixth leaguewide while his time-on-ice per game average (19:22) represents his highest total since the 2014-15 campaign.
"Nick has seamlessly integrated himself into our lineup and into our dressing room," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "His veteran presence and leadership qualities have been instrumental in helping our young group this season, while his strong defensive play and accountability on the ice has really helped with the maturity of our young defensive core."
A native of St. Albert, Alta., Holden was originally acquired by the Senators in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights on July 28, 2021. Signed by Columbus as a free agent from the Chilliwack Bruins (WHL), he sits 35th in games played among all-time undrafted defenders (534) and became the 10th current undrafted defenceman to record a 100th career assist when he did so on Dec. 6 in Ottawa's 3-2 win at New Jersey.
