Say hello to the Britton Boys.
MLB.com reports the Orioles have named Buck Britton manager of the club’s Triple-A team in Norfolk.
Britton, brother of former Orioles closer and current Yankee Zack Britton, has soared through the system ranks, leading Bowie and its top prospect talent to a 149-111 record since 2019.
According to the Baltimore Sun, Britton “figures to continue managing many of the organization’s top prospects as he moves from Double-A Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk.”
The 35-year-old Britton was a 35th-round pick of the Orioles in the 2008 MLB Draft. His career as a minor-league third baseman extended to 2016.
Britton rose as high as Triple-A, playing for the Oklahoma City Dodgers in 2015 and Rochester Red Wings in 2016.
Britton finished his career with a lifetime .270 batting average. Per MiLB.com:
(Britton) was voted an MiLB.com Orioles Organization All-Star in 2011 and 2013 ... selected to the Eastern League All-Star team in 2012 ... began a coaching career with the Orioles and has managed at Delmarva and Bowie ... was voted the Eastern League Manager of the Year in 2019 while leading Bowie.
As for Zack Britton, the 34-year-old New York Yankees reliever is expected to miss most of the 2022 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
