Fans are excited over Grimes' new release with a tease of her long-awaited new song, which will be out later in the week.

On Thursday, January 20, the singer shared a tweet updating fans with what appeared to be binary code, translating to a message reading, "Shinigami Eyes Jan 26," announcing that the song would be out soon.

Her tweet was followed with a short clip of a close-up eye that again contained binary codes, which translated to "01 26 22" or January 26, 2022.

Who's Getting a Special Appearance?

The new teaser has surprised numerous Grimes and Blackpink fans as they noticed the appearance of singer and rapper Jennie in the latest music video teaser.

It was July 2021 when Jennie and Grimes went trending as they were spotted hanging out in front of a rocket. This has led to fans wishing for the two ladies to collaborate someday. And this might just be the tip of the iceberg. The singer dropped the music video teaser on her official YouTube account on January 25, showing the "SOLO" singer standing beside Grimes.

She also tagged the Blackpink member in an Instagram post where she thanked everyone who participated in the video. Though it seems like Jennie will not be featuring as an artist on the song, but many Blinks are still excited for this joint project.

About The New Track

According to NME, the "Shinigami Eyes" was first teased to the fans on the singer's Discord last June. And by August 2021, Grimes uploaded a video with the same title on YouTube, featuring 30 seconds of previously unheard music.

Also, at that time, she had given the fans a chance to pre-save the track, though it was never released.

Shinigami Eyes was said to be a browser add-on that "highlights transphobic and trans-friendly social network pages and users with different colors," as per the source. It was also inspired by the anime "Death Note," where "having shinigami eyes" meant that you will be able to see people's names and lifespan, with only the use of one's eyes.
