FC Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund right-back Thomas Meunier, and initial contact has already been made according to reports in Spain.

The January transfer window is set to slam shut in a few days time, and that means silly season is upon us in terms of rumours. Reports in Spain are claiming that Thomas Meunier is wanted by FC Barcelona, and the Borussia Dortmund right-back is open to a move. According to Marca, the Spanish giants want to sign Meunier on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Meunier, who joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer from Paris St. Germain in 2020, has two and a half years left on his current contract. He struggled to make an impact in his debut season with the Black and Yellows, but has delivered much improved performances this season.

Meunier is Borussia Dortmund’s first choice right-back and has made a total of 24 appearances for the club across all competitions so far this season. The 30 year old has two goals and five assists to his name.

Meunier is the only natural right-back in the Borussia Dortmund squad at the moment, with Mateu Morey still on the road to recovery from the serious knee injury he suffered last season. So it is highly unlikely that the BVB bosses will sanction any move for him, especially this late in the transfer window.

Some reports have also touted a potential player swap deal, with Sergiño Dest joining Borussia Dortmund and Thomas Meunier moving to Barcelona. But it remains to be seen if there is any truth to that rumour.
