UPDATE AT 11:40 a.m. — One woman is dead and four are injured after a shooting at the Days Inn Hotel at the 4300 Block of Connecticut Avenue NW, according to DC Police Chief Robert Contee.
This took place right before 4 a.m. When police arrived on the scene, they located one woman inside the lobby of the hotel with gunshot wounds. Later on, officials found another woman inside a hotel room with gunshot wounds. There were two men who arrived at area hospitals for gunshot wounds, which were related to the shooting according to Chief Contee. Finally, another woman was identified with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officials believe these people came in possibly from Maryland, rented a room at the Days Inn, continued some sort of social interaction, and one thing lead to another leading to the shooting. There may have also been an exchange of gunfire according to Chief Contee.
The woman who has died from this shooting has not yet been identified.
At this time there is no immediate danger to the public. The incident was contained to the hotel room. Police have recovered a handgun from the scene.
DC police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation.

UPDATE AT 7:49 a.m.– D.C. Police issued a correction to an earlier statement indicating that none of the victims had yet been pronounced dead. The victim who was first reported to have died was taken to a hospital in grave condition, police say.
WASHINGTON (WDVM) — Five people were shot Thursday morning along Connecticut Ave NW in Washington, D.C., police say.
