Video of Joe Biden Comforting Meghan McCain Resurfaces After She Calls Him 'Moronic'

A video of Joe Biden comforting Meghan McCain has resurfaced after the The View host labeled the president "moronic."

McCain, 37, recently contracted COVID and she lashed out at Biden and his administration's "feckless" approach to the virus and other issues.

Writing in her Mail Online column, the broadcaster described her experience with coronavirus as "so horrible," writing in the headline that "it made me doubt if America will ever recover from this pandemic. It WILL but not with moronic Biden in charge."

Later on in the piece, McCain wrote: "It was easy for the media to—rightfully—blame Trump for the bungling of the early Covid-19 response, but Biden and his feckless, moronic, isolated Titanic of an administration gets the blame now."

She also said that "roughly 446,197 Americans have died of Covid-19 since Biden's inauguration."

McCain's harsh words for the president haven't been met well by many on social media and a clip of Biden (who was ending his term as vice president at the time) comforting her after her father was diagnosed with cancer is starting to be widely shared.

Her father, Republican presidential candidate John McCain, died in August 2018 and the TV host has been very open about her grief at losing him.

In a 2017 episode of The View, just six months after John McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive and deadly brain cancer known as glioblastoma, Biden appeared on the show to discuss his book and the death of his son Beau, who died from the same form of cancer in 2015.

Meghan McCain breaks down during the segment and Biden switches seats and takes her hand and comforts her, telling the audience that John McCain is his "best friend."

"One of the things that gave Beau courage—my word—was John," Biden says in clip.

"You may remember when you were a little kid, your dad took care of my Beau," he said to her, while Meghan McCain wiped away tears.

"And Beau talked about your dad's courage—not about illness, but about his courage."

He added to the audience: "Her dad is my best friend."

At the time, the heartfelt exchange was a moving example of a moment of bipartisan unity amid deepening political divides in the country.

The clip has now been shared on Twitter by user @NikkiNuVogue, where it's quickly amassing views. It had more than 40,000 at the time of publishing.

Meghan McCain has criticized Biden before.

In September 2021, she said she didn't recognize her longtime family friend following his speech on the nation's Afghanistan withdrawal.

"This is extremely difficult for me to say: I once thought I truly knew Joe Biden and he helped me through pain and grief, for which I am grateful," McCain wrote on Twitter at the time, per Yahoo! "This man on tv giving this speech, I do not recognize this man."
