Erin Morley & Christopher Maltman Lead Berlin State Opera’s Revival of ‘Rigoletto’

The Berlin State Opera is set to revive Bartlett Sher’s production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.”

The production, which premiered in 2019, will star Christopher Maltman who reprises the title role, Erin Morley as Gilda, and Saimir Pirgu as the Duke of Mantua. Grigory Shkarupa and Marina Prudenskaya round out the cast as Sparafucile and Maddalena. Ivan Repušić conducts.

When the production premiered in 2019, OperaWire noted that “Maltman’s Rigoletto was commandingly confident from the first notes he sang. The sheer power of his voice was awe-inspiring as it thundered through the auditorium.”

Sine then Sher’s production has premiered at the Metropolitan Opera and will be screened in HD on Jan. 29.

“Rigoletto” opens on Feb. 11 and will also be performed on Feb. 17, 24, and March 3, 2022.
