Seohyun In Talks Along With Kim Nam Gil And Lee Ho Jung For New Historical Drama

Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun may be joining the cast of Netflix’s upcoming original drama “Thief: Sound of the Sword” (literal translation)!

On January 27, industry representatives reported that Seohyun is confirmed to play the female lead in “Thief: Sound of the Sword.” In response to the report, a source from Seohyun’s agency Namoo Actors stated, “She has received an offer to star in ‘Thief: Sound of the Sword,’ and she is reviewing the offer.”

Having impressed with her previous roles in “Personal Life,” “Time,” and “Hello Dracula,” Seohyun is currently busy working on projects such as “The Jinx’s Lover” (literal title) and the upcoming film “Love and Leashes.”

“Thief: Sound of the Sword” is set in 1920 where people throw a fierce punch of defiance to those who have chased them away from their homes in order to protect their land, family, and comrades. Through fictional characters, the history of defeat will be turned into a history of victory. The project has already gained much attention for dealing with the subject of the Korean independence movement as well as for having an estimated production cost of 30 billion won (approximately $25 million).

In October, it was revealed that Kim Nam Gil is in talks to play the leading role of Lee Yoon, a slave who never learned anything nor had the opportunity to. Although the class system was abolished and he became a free man, he still has the mindset of a slave. His former master suggested he become a soldier, so he does just that and ends up getting involved in a war.

Lee Ho Jung’s agency YG Entertainment also revealed last December that the actress is positively reviewing an offer to star in “Thief: Sound of the Sword.” If she accepts the role, she will be playing Eon Nyeon, who is the daughter of a tenant farmer. She is a figure who wields a gun in order to get revenge on the person who killed her parents. The actress previously starred in the films “Midnight Runners” and “The Battle of Jangsari” as well as the drama “Nevertheless.”

Furthermore, various news outlets reported last year in October that Lee Yoo Young, Lee Hyun Wook, and Yoo Jae Myung are in talks for the show as well. Lee Yoo Young is reportedly in talks to play Nam Hee Shin, an independence activist disguised as a member of the pro-Japanese faction. After witnessing the brutality of Japanese imperialism, she becomes a figure who supports the independence movement. The actress was previously confirmed to star in the upcoming JTBC drama “Insider” with Kang Ha Neul and the film “Firefighter.”

Yoo Jae Myung is also reportedly in talks to take on the role of the general of the Righteous army (informal civilian militias) from the Honam area. He is a tragic figure who took an active role in fighting but had his family and comrades massacred as a part of the Japanese Empire’s subjugation strategy for South Korea. The actor previously starred in “Reply 1988,” “Vincenzo,” “Itaewon Class,” “Voice of Silence,” and more.

Lee Hyun Wook, who is also reportedly in talks for the drama, has captivated viewers in numerous projects including “Strangers From Hell,” “The Good Detective,” “Search,” “She Would Never Know,” and “Mine.”

“Thief: Sound of the Sword” will begin filming this year after wrapping up pre-production work. Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming drama!
