Peter Dinklage’s Criticism of Snow White Gets Response from Disney

Peter Dinklage has spoken up about his reservations regarding remaking Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Disney has responded.

Disney was originally in the process of remaking the beloved 1937 cartoon Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when acclaimed television and film actor Peter Dinklage publicly spoke about his criticisms of having ” …seven dwarfs living in a cave together…” In short, he wasn’t a big fan of the idea of having “dwarfs” in a 2022 production. It seems Dinklage felt that it was taking a huge step back when considering the progression that he has made in show business for diversity. Now, Disney has responded by changing the dwarfs to “magical creatures.”

Dinklage is currently featured in the soon to be released Cyrano which has won rave reviews from film critics. He is best known for his role on the hit show “Game of Thrones.” He was intrigued by the casting of West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler as Snow White but was definitely not open to the idea of bringing back the characters of the seven dwarfs. Disney’s response is interesting being that the term “magical creatures” may be just as odd. Are these characters really “creatures?” Perhaps the studio is planning on changing the whole concept altogether. The company did say they were taking a “different approach” to the characters. However, exact, precise details are unavailable at this particular time.

Gal Gadot is featured as the evil Queen in the upcoming Snow White live-action remake. This re-working of the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale will be directed by Marc Webb of (500) Days of Summer fame. This remake will feature all new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Let’s hope they haven’t written any songs which use the word “dwarf” or “dwarfs” yet.

Meanwhile, Dinklage is currently awaiting the news of a (potential) Oscar nomination for his work in the terrific movie, Cyrano. This revelation will be unveiled in February when the Oscar nods are officially announced. This was certainly the most nuanced role of his distinguished career. Many insiders think he has a real shot at an Academy Award nomination. His influence over Disney after he spoke his mind is tremendous proof that Dinklage is an actor in Hollywood who you should never underestimate.

Disney is said to be looking for voice-over performers to give the newly defined “magical creatures” some distinct personalities. However, anything is still possible regarding final decisions about these characters until the film actually goes before the cameras. It remains a testament to Dinklage’s tremendous talents that Disney has made these “changes” to the title characters in the forthcoming live-action remake of the immensely popular cartoon. We will reveal more as news is made available.
