Longtime fans of the billion-dollar franchise are well-aware of the Mission Impossible star's supposed casting as the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist in the original Iron Man movie but things just weren't meant to be at the time. Some rumors even suggested that Cruise, a bonafide action star who is known for doing his own stunts wasn't too fond of the idea of his face being covered by a metal helmet.

Now, a fantastic MCU art created by Instagram artist @spdrmnxxiii depicts Cruise as Iron Man, inspired by his "superior" run in the comics. This specific version of the Iron Man is known for being an unmasked version of the character and it would make total sense for Tom to portray this Iron Man variant. Check it out here:

It's worth noting though that Tony Stark's "superior" iteration isn't considered a good guy in the comics but that's not to say the MCU can't make some minor tweaks to the character and retcon him as a hero. As for the Tom Cruise rumors, while the idea of him finally playing Iron Man sounds extremely fascinating, we can't get our hopes up just yet.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
