VIDEO: Phone-snatching thief targets victim on Bronx subway platform: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is searching for a man who stole a woman's cellphone as she waited on a Bronx subway platform last week.

Authorities said the incident happened on Jan. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the Nereid Avenue subway station as a 56-year old woman waited for the train on a southbound 2 platform and was approached by the suspect from behind, who removed her phone from her purse.

When the victim noticed, police said she demanded its return.

Instead, the man, who is described as being 30 to 40-years-old, fled the station on foot in an unknown direction.

No injuries were reported in this incident.

Cops said the cell phone had an estimated value of $800.
