Ski Jumper Anna Hoffmann tells her mom that she made the U.S. Olympic Team

PARK CITY, Utah — U.S. Ski jumper and University of Utah student Anna Hoffmann had her Olympic dreams realized on Monday afternoon as she received an email, notifying her that a spot had opened and she would in fact be headed to Beijing to represent the stars and stripes.

“In a crazy turn of events, an Olympic spot opened up and I was next in line for the nomination. As of yesterday I have been officially accepted and nominated for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. I am so honored to have this chance to finally realize my childhood dreams. It has been a long and fun 19 years and I’m so glad I get to finally achieve a lifelong dream,” Hoffmann said on Facebook.

Remarkably, Despite winning the Olympic trials at Lake Placid, NY on Christmas Day, Hoffmann had not earned the necessary amount of points to qualify. Unlike other Olympic sports, countries do not automatically get Olympic berths in ski jumping, but must qualify by earning points in the World Cup and other competitions which left Hoffmann sidelined as an alternate.

But after a spot had opened up, and following a series of back-and-forth phone calls, Hoffmann and her coaches received a destiny-defining confirmation email while at the USA Nordic Sport office in Park City, which verified her admittance into the games.

“It doesn’t seem real yet,” Hoffmann said in an interview. “I don’t think it will feel real till I’m on that flight over.”

Upon receiving the confirmation, Hoffmann called her mother to share in the exciting and emotional news which she then posted on her TikTok.

Hoffmann will now make her way to Los Angeles where she will undergo certain Olympic processing and fill out all the necessary paperwork in order to compete in Beijing. Following that process, Hoffmann will then travel to Beijing on Sunday and continue preparations for the games which begin on Friday, Feb. 4 with the first day of the ski jumping competition taking place on Saturday, Feb. 5.
