PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles couple wanted for the purse snatching and assault of a 79-year-old woman at a downtown grocery store Sunday morning have been arrested.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada called in this report from the scene just moments after their arrest.

“Just a little bit after 3:00 this afternoon, Port Angeles police officers in cooperation with OPNET located and apprehended Yslava and Konopaski, the two suspects in the Safeway robbery. They located them in an alcove of a business in the 700 block of East Front Street, and took them into custody without incident.”

28-year-old Orlando Yslava and 21-year-old Alivia Konopaski were on foot at the time of their arrest. Viada tells us the car used in the getaway, in which the victim of the robbery was dragged in the parking lot, was not their vehicle.

“That vehicle is owned by somebody else, and that person actually spoke with us shortly after the incident at Safeway. The vehicle had been examined by police shortly after the crime. They no longer had possession of it.”

The pair are charged with Robbery in the First Degree and Assault with a Deadly Weapon and are expected to make their first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.
