The Jonesville and Reading prep hoops teams played in contests on Tuesday night against familiar conference opponents. Both teams would walk away with victories. Here is a recap of how both teams improved on their overall records Tuesday night.

Reading 61 - Bronson 55

The Rangers were in a tough conference battle against the Bronson Vikings on Tuesday night. A 21-point second quarter propelled the Vikings to a 31-28 halftime lead over the Rangers. Ranger head coach Brett Kerspilo and the Rangers rallied with their own 20-point quarter in the third to retake the lead. The Rangers were able to add 13 points in the fourth to help pull away from the Vikings for the 61-55 final score.

Colton Wiler led the Rangers with 21 points and 8 rebounds. Nico Kersten had one of his best games of the season with a double double. Kersten had 14 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.  Maverick Messenger added 10 points, Eli Irelan 7,  and Jacob Hamilton had 5 points and 7 assists.  The Rangers are now 8-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Big 8 conference.

Jonesville 65 - Springport 40

The surging Comets, led by head coach Jeff Turner, took a bit of a stumble this past Friday when they lost to Concord on the road. The Jonesville varsity boys basketball team was on a four game win streak and playing some of it's best basketball of the season now that the team has begun to reach full strength. The showdown with Concord that resulted in a 53-43 loss for the Comets was a tightly contested game up until the fourth quarter.

The Comets looked to bounce back in a big way against the Springport Spartans on Tuesday night. The Comets were able to defeat the Spartans 65-40 to earn their sixth win of the season.

The Comets outscored the Spartans in three of the four periods. The Comets used a 24-7 third quarter scoring effort to help gain a double digit lead over the Spartans.

The team was led by leading scorer Brady Wright who had 13 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Damian Scherer had 13 points. Tyler Scholfield had 13 points and six rebounds. Curtis Knapp had 10 points and five assists. Braeden Trine had eight points.

Springport's scoring effort was led by Kaleb Hawes who had 21 points.

Jonesville is now 6-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
