SEMIFINAL DRAW
- (1) Ash Barty vs. Madison Keys (3:30 a.m.)
A pair of underdogs are searching to play in the final match in the Land Down Under, and there is no bigger underdog than American Madison Keys. The 51st-ranked player in the world has only dropped one set so far, that coming in the third round. This is, however, not her first rodeo, as this will be Keys’ fifth Grand Slam semifinal and second in Australia. Yet, she has not played for a championship since losing in the 2017 U.S. Open final.
Her opponent is only the no. 1 player in the world, as the hometown hero Ash Barty has looked almost untouchable through the quarterfinals. The closest she came to dropping a set was a 6-4 opening set in the fourth round against Amanda Anisimova. This is the defending Wimbledon champion’s second semifinal in Melbourne, as she strives to play for a title on home court this year.
This will be the third the two have met in a Grand Slam tournament, as both have each taken a match in their two encounters in the French Open.
- (7) Iga Swiatek vs. (27) Danielle Collins (4:45 a.m.)
The young and impressive Swiatek is having her best performance in Melbourne, and is one win away from making it back to a Grand Slam final since winning French Open in 2020. She has had a little bit of a tough time, though, getting by her last two opponents, as she went the distance in both the Round of 16 and the quarters, including needing a tiebreaker in the second set to stay alive against Kaia Kanepit on Tuesday.
Danielle Collins is also looking to pull off an upset in the final four. Coming into her second Australian Open semifinal, and first since 2019, the American has seen some bumps in the road, but has persevered. Collins looked real good in her quarterfinal clash with Alize Cornet, beating the Frenchwoman in straight sets.
This is the second time these two have met in a year, as Swiatek knocked off Collins in straight sets at the Adelaide International in February 2021.
