Man United midfielder Jesse Lingard just wants a chance to play first-team football. He's getting minimal chances to do so at Old Trafford, therefore the Englishman has shown interest in a loan move to Newcastle for the rest of the season. While it looked like a deal between the two clubs was nearing, the Red Devils have thrown a wrench into the Magpies' plans.

Per ESPN, Man United is demanding over $20 million in wages, loan fees, and relegation costs (if they stay in the top flight) just for a loan that will last until the end of the campaign.

Sources close to ESPN state the Red Devils already rejected a loan offer from Newcastle for Lingard for around $10 million, even though Anthony Martial just joined Sevilla for free.

Lingard wasn't initially that keen on a move to St. James Park considering they're on the brink of being relegated. But, he realizes that consistent minutes are the only way to break into Gareth Southgate's England squad again ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Honestly, at this point, Man United is doing absolutely nothing right by Lingard, who will see his current contract with the side expire this summer. He's barely playing at all under Ralf Rangnick and the German reportedly gave the green light to let Lingard explore opportunities elsewhere. But, the Red Devils board has shut down the idea.

Lingard has played just 88 Premier League minutes this term, scoring twice during that span. If Man United don't clean up their act quick, it's expected
Newcastle will shift their focus to Tottenham outcast Dele Alli.

This situation is a real bummer for Jesse Lingard.
