The couple first began dating in 2017 after meeting on the set of the Seth Green-directed comedy Changeland in Thailand. After moving in together, they soon considered starting a family. “We practice a lot,” Macaulay joked to Esquire about having a baby. “We’re figuring it out, making the timing work. Because nothing turns you on more than when your lady comes into the room and says, ‘Honey, I’m ovulating.’”

In the same interview, Brenda gushed about her famous boyfriend, saying, “People don’t realize how incredibly kind and loyal and sweet and smart he is. Truly what makes Mack so special is that he is so unapologetically Mack. He knows who he is, and he’s 100 percent okay with that. And that, to me, is an incredibly sexy quality. He’s worked really hard to be the person he is.”

When baby Dakota arrived on April 5, it was quite a surprise for the public, as the couple kept the pregnancy under wraps. In a short but sweet statement, Macaulay and Brenda expressed their happiness in welcoming their son, saying, “We’re overjoyed.” It was also revealed the child’s name held a special place in their heart, as Dakota was named after Macaulay’s late sister, who tragically died in 2008 after she stepped off a sidewalk in Los Angeles and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
