Rom-com and Olivia Rodrigo enthusiasts, do we have a crossover for you. A Walk to Remember, the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s 1999 novel starring Mandy Moore and Shane West, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year — and Mandy herself thinks it’s time to breathe some new air into the project, maybe with none other than Olivia Rodrigo.

As we all know, reboots and reunions are in vogue. Recently, Mandy sat down with People to chat about the beloved movie and admitted that she “would love” for A Walk to Remember to get one of its own, too. "I would love to see it. It's been long enough that I feel like we've earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point," Mandy told the publication. As far as who’d play Jamie Sullivan, the role she took on when she was just 17, it looks like Mandy has one clear contender in mind. "I don't know, Olivia Rodrigo or something like that," the actor said. "Someone could redo this film."

I mean, we see the vision. Olivia has been killing it in the music scene with her debut album Sour, but lest we forget, she has her fair share of acting gigs under her belt. Back in December, it was announced that Olivia would be returning to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as Nini for the show’s long-anticipated third season. “I really don’t know where my career’s going to go in the next five years or in the next 10,” Olivia told GQ in August 2021. “I’m really grateful that I get to be doing both [acting and singing] now. I just think it’s about finding projects and writing songs I feel really passionate about.”

Seeing that, much like Nini, she also has a penchant for singing herself, Jamie Sullivan could arguably be the perfect role for Olivia. After all, it was Mandy’s own singing chops that ultimately helped her land the role back then, too. “I was driving up Laurel Canyon, I heard Mandy’s song ‘I Wanna Be With You,’ and I thought, who the hell is that little angel voice?” the film’s director Adam Shankman told Elle in 2006. “I went to the Virgin record store, saw her face, and flipped out. I said, ‘That’s my girl.’”

Now, if you need me, I’ll be manifesting Olivia’s own cover of Switchfoot’s "Only Hope."
