Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt has been voted as the Pro Football Writers of America Defensive Player of the Year, becoming only the second player to ever win the award.
The award that was first given out in 1992, was won by James Harrison in 2008.
The main Defensive Player of the Year Award recognized by the NFL from the Associated Press will be named three days before the Super Bowl on February 10.
Watt is considered a favorite for that award. The last six out of seven players that won the PFWA also won the AP award, which is a good sign for Watt.
Other accolades that Watt has already be awarded include Steelers Team MVP, the 101 Awards AFC Defensive Player of the Year, Pro Football Writers All-NFL team and along with Steelers defensive captain Cam Heyward, first-team Associated Press All-Pro.
Watt’s 22.5 sacks this past season tied a record set by Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001.
